The 7 Important Rules

I truly believe there are 7 important rules you should follow when involved in the music industry …

RULE 1: STAY COMMITTED

Apply this through everything everything you do – work your butts off. Find the hardest worker you know, and work twice as hard as them.

RULE 2: STAY CURRENT

Write something that you’ll hear in 2018, not something you currently hear on Spotify – be an innovator and discover something new.

RULE 3: STAY COLLABORATIVE

Record duet covers, keep networking.

RULE 4: STAY CAREFUL

If anyone promises you something big way up front … it’s bull.

RULE 5: STAY CLASSY

EVERYTHING you do needs to be top quality! Whether it’s the mixes, masters, production, photos, recordings, logos (style), the way you present yourself, be true to you! It’s better for you in the long run.

RULE 6: STAY CONCISE

No one cares about your child / life story. In an email, send a good song, photo and a 3-4 line bio with links. All social media sites look like you’ve spent money on them so let your artistry do the talking, don’t throw it at people.

Finally …

RULE 7: STAY CLEVER

When it comes to songs, stay ahead of the game. Engage with your fan base differently. Be an avid seeker of knowledge. Ask people who’ve experience. Ask questions, listen to what they say and take it on board.
